Wallaceburg OSISS Group opening April 27

This is Rob Simpson’s announcement today. BONNIE

The Wallaceburg OSISS Group is going to happen. We have the place, First Baptist Church on Napier St. which is off of Margaret Ave. here in Wallaceburg. Padre Brian Horrobin will be our Spiritual Leader. Our first meeting is on April 27th at 3:00pm at First Baptist Church.

Here we will get to know one another. Those who come will decide our course as majority rules at these meetings. We need to plot how we want to run these meetings as well as plan social outings for the group. I am hoping to set up weekly, or bi-weekly meetings, so that we can help one another to heal and cope with life’s problems. It takes a Veteran to truly help a Veteran.

I know that there is a great need in this area and in the greater Windsor area. We are open to all who wish to come. For ease of communication here is my contact info:

Phone:  519-627-4037
E-mail: robthegolfnut@yahoo.ca.

I encourage any Veterans to contact me if you are having problems, as well as to tell me that you are coming to the meeting.

IN ADDITION, on the weekend of April 16/17, I will be announcing at the Royal Canadian Legion District A convention in Chatham the start date and formation of The Wallaceburg OSISS Group. I have asked for someone from Veterans Affairs Canada, the London OSI Clinic and someone from the London OSISS group to come in the future and speak about what help is out there. Everyone I have spoken to is excited about this group. They want this to work and want to be a part of this effort. It is important to understand that we are open to all Allied Veterans who suffer the effects of PTSD ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder): Canadian, British, U.S.A., Polish, etc…

Our meetings welcome the wives, girlfriends, etc., who also suffer from the effects of PTSD. They know how we suffer from the effects of our service as soldiers, as they see and live with it every day.

Hi Bonnie and everyone else out there.
I’ve just finished talking to my Zone Service Officer he is jumping the gun and he as asked me to bring him copies of my post so he can get it out to all the Zone A 3 Legions before the convention. It only takes but one person to stand up and say this is wrong and we are going to do something about it. We are going to help ourselves, it takes Veterans helping Veterans to get the job done. Does this sound familar? Yes CVA did it, I’ve gotten info that in this small town there are Veterans living in seedy hotels and using the food bank. Well helping Veterans to get help and to learn that we are not alone has come from an idea and a test run two years ago to what is happening today. We will succeed and along the way we will get the much needed help, these folks lack. I have the press lined up ready to write about it and give me air time as well. One thing Ottawa should know is that I don’t take no for an answer, first an OSISS group in Wallaceburg, then a day clinic in Chatham for those who suffer from OSI’S.
Thank You again Bonnie, I’ll keep you posted on the mission.
    Rob S.
