Katy O’Malley, whose blog INSIDE POLITICS is carried by the CBC online, congratulates rookie Liberal MP Sean Casey for catching the Harper government asleep at the wheel — they didn’t show up in time to vote on the Standing Committee for Veterans Affairs. A true victory for our vets!! BONNIE

Veterans Benefit from Conservatives Being Asleep at the Switch
Liberal Veterans’ Affairs Critic Sean Casey passed the following motion at the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs this morning, because the Conservatives were late for the meeting and lost the vote.

The Committee will now begin the important work of studying the impact of the over $200 Million cuts to Veterans’ Affairs.

That the Committee suspends its current study on “commemorating veterans” and commence hearings into the impact of the recent decision by the Conservative government to cut over 200 million dollars from the Veteran Affairs department, and that the Committee specifically assess the impact these cuts will have on programs and services to our veterans and the impact these cuts will have on staff and, that the Committee report back its findings to the House
